Alewives and bunker (Menhaden, Moss Bunker, Pogies, etc.) are a common bait fish in most areas all along the East Coast. Nearly every game fish feeds on "peanut" bunker at one time or another during the season. As such, bunker are quite well imitated by this pattern. This fly can be fished day or night, and is usually best fished on a straight retrieve in a current. Also try fishing it hanging in a pocket, along a jetty or breach way.
