This pattern has many strengths and benefits:
- Highly adaptable - The pattern can be used to imitate a
specific species of bait fish, a category of bait fish (ex: green bait, blue bait, etc.),
or a general bait fish imitation. Even Lefty says there is no one style or pattern. Most
recently, freshwater fisherman have begun using "tiny" deceivers for trout and
have been well rewarded!
- So Versatile - Deceivers take fish everywhere. Fresh or
salt, bay or ocean or lake, day or night, the deceiver is effective.
- A Tough Tie - The fly's design makes it very durable. It
can take the punishment of big game fish, even toothy critters, over and over without the
need to put on a new fly after each fish. That's not to say it's indestructible, just that
a deceiver can usually last a longer time than some other more delicate patterns.
- It's Aerodynamic! - No matter how big the deceiver fly
is, the very shape of a deceiver makes for a lower profile when casting. This translates
into a longer cast than you could get with some other patterns of similar size.
Enjoy and good fishing!
